Emergency Department

Deaconess Hospital’s emergency department staff responds to more than 25,000 medical crises a year. When emergency situations occur, central Oklahomans turn to Deaconess for fast and efficient treatment 24-hours-a-day, 365 days per year. Our six full-time ER physicians have more than 75 years of combined experience in emergency medicine and are backed by a highly trained nursing staff.

Deaconess Hospital is prepared to address 98 percent of all hospital-based services used by the general public. (The other two percent consist of burns, transplants and some neurological procedures.)

The Deaconess ER staff strives to serve each person as we would our own family member facing a health crisis. Our goal is to offer prompt, courteous service to all who seek our care. Please keep in mind that several factors may affect your wait time, including other persons facing more critical medical situations, patients entering through the ambulance entrance, or the need for a specific room to treat your condition that may be occupied. However, we are always working to avoid any delays in your care and we will attempt to keep you informed. Ninety percent of all Deaconess emergency patients are in-and-out in less than three hours.

Located on the east side of the hospital, the new Deaconess ER is a spacious, airy facility that includes 14 treatment rooms complete with windows, televisions and sliding glass doors.

The updated and expanded Deaconess ER includes special features including a decontamination room in case a patient has been exposed to hazardous materials. In addition, it boasts the only skylight in any emergency room in Oklahoma City.

In addition to new treatment rooms, there is a designated room for physicians to dictate charts and examine X-rays. The nursing staff has a semi-private desk area that makes it easier to check in patients and process paperwork. A new family room gives grieving families a chance to be alone or physicians can deliver a patient’s prognosis in private.
