Admission and Dismissal

Your admission to Deaconess Hospital was requested by your physician, a member of our medical staff. Our admitting staff will need personal information necessary to provide you with the best health possible. All information about your hospital stay is confidential.

Social Services

Social work services are available to ensure continuity of care through appropriate referrals to community agencies or resources and facilitate patient/family adjustments to illness, disability or death. Services are provided at no extra charge.

Accommodations

Every effort has been made to provide you with the type of room you and your physician have requested. Deaconess’ patients are assigned rooms based on current availability of beds and are transferred when necessary for optimal patient care. Assignment is made without regard to race, creed or national origin.

Smoking restrictions

Because of our concern for your health and commitment to providing quality health care, Deaconess is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas outside of the hospital building.

Your Dismissal

Checkout time

Checkout time is 1 p.m. When your doctor orders your discharge, please make arrangements for your transportation home that day.

Dismissal after 1 p.m. on your checkout date may necessitate a late room charge. Dismissals after 9 p.m. may be charged one full day’s room charge. This charge may not be covered by your hospitalization insurance.

Discharge procedure

Normally, all necessary information will be obtained and all financial arrangements will be completed prior to the time you are discharged by your physician.

A courtesy dismissal is provided for all patients who have verified insurance. This eliminates the need to stop by the Patient Accounts office the day of your discharge.

Occasionally, when all information and/or financial arrangements have not been completed, it will be necessary for the patient or the responsible party to visit with an account representative in the Patient Accounts office prior to leaving the hospital. Your nurse will advise you if such a visit is necessary.

You are encouraged to work closely with the Patient Accounts office during and after your stay to ensure that all information is provided and all financial arrangements are finalized. This will prevent unnecessary delays at the time of discharge. The Patient Accounts office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
